Lauren’s Blog Post #2
Ahoy Mateys! Its Captain Lauren back again for my second post on the blog. I’m sorry I was missing from action last week. A bit of rough waters I had to navigate to come back to you with a clear head and some seaweed in my hair. So I’m here to set sail for a long and eye opening journey once again. When I think of how the world looks and works like The Hunger Games and how I hope it won’t turn into The Walking Dead I also had a more productive question come to mind. What is real? We all have our opinions and feelings that don’t always match up with others so what’s the truth. My favorite genre of books and movies are realistic fiction because I believe life imitates art if you look to find the deeper meaning, the bigger picture as I also see it. When you look at the Harry Potter series from the outside it's about an orphaned boy who goes to wizard school while being harassed by a no nose having man. Sweet and simple, right. Quick disclaimer: I know Hogwarts doesn’t exist as a school but I also know what it means to me. Hogwarts is a place that gave Harry a home when his family didn’t provide him one. His family didn’t show him love and support but the staff and his fellow students did. I am a Hufflepuff because I am just, loyal, and true and those are the qualities I love about myself and always want to keep. So yeah Hogwarts isn’t real but the lessons and love are real in my mind. Disney movies aren’t based on real life events. Getting dressed by birds would save so much time in the morning but take away the birds and the breaking out of song and you still have my day to day life but I see so much more of myself in those movies aside from that. My general analysis and love of Disney comes from the general theme of family. My favorite Disney movie is Meet the Robinsons. If you know me well that might come as a surprise because a huge part of my memory bank is filled with every High School Musical lyric. Singing in the quad and being joined by others who knew the same song and choreography I did never happened but I feel I learned and got something even better. Now Meet the Robinsons is about a boy who was put up for adoption and used every moment after that to find his family because he felt he was lacking it but without spoiling it because it really deserves to be experienced first hand his family was already right in front of him he had to just keep looking forward to see that. A lot of Disney movies have that same formula of feeling alone without blood family to receive chosen family from people along their mental and physical journeys. I was a lonely kid in the fact that my family was split up by distance but books, movies, and music really helped me know I was never alone. More on music to come because that’s a whole post in itself. To come full circle how you feel is what is real to you and no one has a say in that. So to answer my own question the truth I find in fiction is what’s real to me. Always seek to find that for yourself to know there’s more to every story you encounter. This was a long one to make up for last week and a hope for smooth sailing for all of the Beacon Crew and I will see you soon.
